a twenty year break away from making music is almost unheard of especially within electronic music circles, but that is where antenna happy finds himself with pinto. clocking in at 9.09 pinto draws from psychedelia and techno set straight for the sun. this kaleidoscopic sonic excursion has all the makings of a cult classic, and heads up the debut 12- release on newly founded imprint reinhardt records. taking lead on the b-side an entirely different affair in the shape of fallen. this is benchmark electronic music, as arpeggiators take flight mirrored against hypnotic acid bass, for a journey into the outer house territories. closing the ep, spark holds the reigns. conceived within the same stretch as pinto, however it wasn t until some months later that spark took on its full form. emotive modular synths lay the groundwork, connecting the dots between low-slung techno and house music, culminating in a track that sits in neither genre camp. spark will appear on the digital release only. the ep title track takes its name and inspiration from paintings by antenna happy s three-year-old daughter, whose birth inspired him to return to making music. close-ups of these paintings can be seen in the artwork for the release.

tian gjevik (eod,cn), passionate and curious about electronic music, found in a trondheim thrift store a tape of the norwegian legendary project : the educational music -sports/tools-. he contacted one of the two composers called dildrian schrodinger. he has managed to negociate with him a deal for a vinyl license with weme records. we can find in this project ordered by the norwegian state all an experimentation work with electronic machines from the 1980 s. it is sometimes accompanied by a clumsy singing quite modern at that time.

steve frisco, of serie limitee fame, brings us the latest bundle of hot tracks to hit wax classic in 2014. as the title suggests, steve takes us on a journey through low fidelity sounds and production techniques. think dark, moody, yet crunchy basement house tracks with inspiration taken from all over the u.s and the rest of the house world. it�s a generous offering as well. six whole dusty tunes for those diggers who are looking for something with a bit more range than another record of generic piano laden, house-by-numbers pieces that still seem to be flooding the record store shelves in 2014. the moods do vary from track to track, but they remain very reflective and almost melancholic at points. the title track, �adventure in lo-fi�, is the deepest of the lot with filtered chords, echoing claps and a sporadic kick pattern that often clears way for the track�s bass hits. now, compare that to �da brooklyn beat�. whilst the former had a distinct sunrise/sunset kind of feel to it, the latter is definitely more of a club affair. skippy snare hits and a strong organ lead the track on, and at the risk of utilizing very overused buzzwords such as �raw� and �ruff�, this track, and the rest of the a-side for that matter, certainly captures that essence. stalwart wax classic fans will no doubt be picking this one up to add to their collection. however, i strongly recommend this ep as a jumping in point to the label for any newcomers out there

ocoeurs latest album a parallel life finds franck zaragoza showcasing his adeptness at fusing thoughtfully crafted melodies with twitchingly syncopated techno. in a recent interview berlin music portal kultmucke introduced zaragoza something of an idm prodigy and while thats a fair summation due to his preference for malleable beatwork and his use of heavily processed field recordings there is more there than simple glitchery. zaragozas melodies, while often shrouded in hazes of static, affect the cinematic minimalism of modern composition. these such comparisons put him stylistically hovering somewhere between the likes of arovane and max richter which is no meager feat. a parallel life aches, breathes, pulsates and is forever churning. it has a subliminal soul that is all too often a casualty of electronic music of this style. the vinyl lp includes a download code.

if you re going to beat em down, you need the right tools. on the label s second release, grimy trax has given you a couple hammers. the a-side, dejay cease s the fixer is straight chicago. we re talking banging 909 funk that might be found buried on a particularly unhinged ron hardy mix. a simple bass line and two notes of acid are all it takes to make the floor go wild. this is functional heat with enough atmosphere to engage the mind, body and soul. on the b-side, rising chicago son boogienite proves he s earned the hype. boy, ok is an instant classic thanks to some recognizable disco strings and a funky escalator of a bassline. the producer uses a trippy, rubberband synth which eventually turns into rhythmic, teasing vocal. the mixdown is ridiculous, especially as the lengthy track passes the halfway mark. boogie brings the bassline in and out in between beautiful ambient rhodes and a call and response male and female vocal. those strings hit again and you feel no pain.

make no mistake, for vault series 15 the doors have been flung open to welcome a new act to the fold. theres very little known about mistake made. no records or releases exist to date, but they have impressed vault chief subjected enough to have them join the sequestered berlin-based crew. and in sublime compliance with the vault series creed, this debut effort from the shadowy outfit presents yet another set of functioning and frill-free dancefloor material, complete with a rusted-through hue of its own. on the a-side >wrist< jumps straight in with marching intent, complete with fidgety hat work thats both anxious and infectious. then on the flip, >ricochet< opens with field recordings tossed into a stormy concoction of ticks, hats and fuzzy atmospherics, teamed up here with one of those basslines that will keep you glued to the floor. >indec< then concludes in signature vault series style an ominous, growling number rattled with alarm bells and screeching, clangorous detail. its one of those monstrous slow-burners that leaves you wounded yet longing for more. all in all, a rounded first release from a new techno tour de force. this isnt the last we will be hearing from mistake made.

airplay from steve barker (the wire) on bbc radio and support from tomas rubeck (eshu) among others. kicking off the new fifth interval label, san francisco based dub techno producer federsen heads up the premier release. the title track is a hazy dub techno trip filled with washes of tape delayed chords and crisp snares while the b1 track - 50hz is a far more broken affair, 140 bpm gear comparable to the likes of deadbeat and strategy. for the final track, isodyne (one half of forward strategy group) shakes up 50 hz, slowing it down to an incredibly weighty 115 bpm, finalising an excellent release with something for discerning djs of all tastes.
